    • What does ECAR mean?

      ECAR stands for " Extra Curricular Activity Registration. It refers to the registration system that allows you to record extracurricular or social activities you have completed outside your regular course plan at ITU (Istanbul Technical University) and receive micro-credentials for them, which will be included in your ITU diploma supplement.

    • What does Micro-Credentials mean?

      Micro-Credentials are credentials with an ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) equivalent given for activities that require at least 30 hours but do not have a local credit value (meaning they do not affect your overall GPA). These credits are reflected in the ITU diploma supplement and showcase the activities students have participated in within ITU.

    • Who can apply for ECAR?

      Students who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and are within the normal duration of their enrolled undergraduate program can apply for ECAR.

    • Can I earn Micro-Credentials for activities I did outside the university?

      No, ECAR is only granted for activities within the university's scope and supervised by an advisor.

    • Does the micro-credentials I earn affect my graduation?

      No, the credentials earned within the ECAR program are reflected as ECTS in the diploma supplement. These activities do not have local credits.

    • The credentials I earned are not appearing on my undergraduate transcript. What should I do?

      Credentials earned under the ECAR program do not appear on the undergraduate transcript. They are included in the diploma supplement.

    • What should I do after completing the activities?

      The registration of the activity that the student declares to participate in at the beginning of the semester and applies for is approved through the internet site designated by the Dean of Students until the last day of the semester by the responsible ITU academic staff or unit responsible for the relevant activity.

    • Can the club president or team leader approve my activities?

      No, the advisors of student clubs and project teams are the approvers of the relevant activities. Each term advisors of relevant clubs and project teams were announced at mikrokredi.itu.edu.tr.

    • If I complete the missing hours for an activity that had less than 30 hours, can I earn Micro-Credentials?

      No, each activity must be completed and evaluated within the respective semester.

    • Are all Student clubs eligible for ECAR?

      No, the list of student clubs eligible for ECAR must be announced at the mikrokredi.itu.edu.tr webpage each semester. Student clubs considered for ECAR should be active and have an active webpage showing their current activities.

    • How many Micro-Credentials can I earn maximum from ECAR?

      According to ITU Senate Regulations, Article 9, 10, 11, and 12, you can register for a maximum of four activities in one semester, one of each defined activity type.

    • What do I need to do to receive Micro-Credentials from EELISA or ATHENS events?
      Students' participation information in ATHENS or EELISA programs will be obtained from the respective coordinators, and if they meet the necessary conditions, they will automatically receive their Micro-Credentials. There is no need to make any applications.
    • What do I need to do to receive Micro-Credentials from research projects?
      If our students take part in research projects carried out within ITU, they must be added as project personnel in the ITU BAP system. At the end of the semester, the student list will be received from ITU Scientific Research Unit and their microcredits will be automatically processed. There is no need to make any applications.
